Been as studios are still not permitted to open, it’s time for a competition. Time to dig up the fake skin or get some ordered as you’ll need that as well as your machine and inks. We have four categories to enter with prizes for 1st place and runner up in each as well as a raffle prize for all who enter. Please see all details below.

Categories to enter:

Best Realism – Portraits, Animals, Rose, Pocket Watch, Famous Movie Scene? Whether it’s colour or black and grey, if you’ve represented the subject matter truthfully submit it as your best realism.

Best Scripture / Lettering – Time to get your body of writing up to scratch and let your lettering speak for itself. You know we have BJ Betts as a judge, right?

Best Traditional / Neo Traditional – Stick to the roots of traditional tattoo art with bold lines and deep colouring… or, mix together your traditional work with some realism to give it a neo traditional twist.

Best of the Rest – Don’t fit into any of the categories above? Not to worry, submit it in the Best of the Rest category, but remember you may be up against all sorts… Dotwork, New school, Blackwork, Japanese, Mandalas, need we go on?

Dates:

Entries for the competition close Saturday 27th Feb
Judging takes place on Sunday 28th Feb
Winners Announced Monday 1st March

Submission:

Please submit your fake skin entry using the google form here: https://forms.gle/Axr782huJLFHGdL59

You will be asked to fill out some profile questions (name, email etc.) as well as at the bottom of the form you can submit a picture (up to 5) and a short video of your fake skin entry. We have requested you to send a video as well as this will show the judges authenticity in your still shot of the work.

Please do not submit pictures of work which have machines and cartridges etc. scattered on top of or around the work.

Judges will not be made aware of who has done the work they are judging.

Prizes up for grabs:

We’ve got some great supplies available for you to win and thanks to the generosity of our sponsors the prize pot just got bigger! There will be plenty of opportunity to win something. The winner of each category will win a prize box and the runner up of each category will win a smaller box too. And we will have a raffle for whoever enters, so even if you enter and didn’t win runner up or first place in a category you could still win something! Prizes include:

  • Butterluxe
  • Empire Inks
  • Hex Cartridges
  • Alpha Markers
  • Stencil Honey
  • Tattoo Armour

Rules:

As mentioned above, we want to make sure that the judging is fair (hence sending a video of your work as well as a picture). Please follow these rules, if it is deemed that someone is cheating in any way then your work will not be included in judging, and you will not be notified. This is a fun lockdown competition for all to enjoy and participate in. If you need to use filters or editing software in your work, then you shouldn’t be entering.

  • You cannot enter using someone else’s work, all work submitted must be your own
  • You are not allowed to submit work with filters or edits (contrast or saturation changes, greyscale edit, adding details using software etc.)
  • You cannot enter the same piece into two categories
  • You are not permitted to enter work which is discriminating in any way
  • You must submit work only done on fake skin sheets, limbs or other fake skin products. Real client canvases, sketch books and other alternative canvases will not be taken into consideration.
  • You must be a tattoo artist located at a licensed UK based tattoo studio

Finally, a thank you to our sponsors who are generous enough to provide their time and supplies for us to make this competition that little bit more special. Same goes for our special guest judges who will be taking time out of their day to evaluate all the work submitted and pick the winners.

Good luck to all of you who enter. Please do share the event and get others involved too. We should look out for each other in these long and arduous times throughout lockdown.

We hope this competition encourages you to stay creative until we can get back into the studios. If you have any questions about the competition please get in touch with us on Instagram or email dan@starrtattoo.com.

Bestest of regards,
Starr Tattoo Supplies
